Sudden Hearing Loss

Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SSHL)

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss, or sudden deafness, is a rapid, unexplained hearing loss that usually affects one ear. It can occur suddenly or develop over hours or days.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is used to treat idiopathic SSHL by increasing oxygen supply to the inner ear and nerve cells. This helps reduce swelling, promotes stem cell growth, and supports the body’s ability to fight infections, potentially aiding in recovery of hearing.

HBOT For Sudden Hearing Loss

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) helps patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss by:

  • Increasing oxygen levels in blood and tissues, allowing better oxygen delivery to the inner ear’s structures, fluids, and nerves
  • Reducing inflammation and swelling in the affected area
  • Lowering the risk of infection

These effects support healing and improve the chances of hearing recovery.
